The Florida Panthers finish their Western Canada road trip tonight when they head to Scotiabank Saddledome to take on the Calgary Flames.
Florida earned a convincing 5-1 win over Edmonton on Saturday and will look to go two-for-two in Alberta against a Calgary team that has just two victories in its last eight contests while allowing nearly four goals per game over that span. Recent form has led the NHL odds to mark the Cats as road favorites.

The Florida Panthers snapped a two-Game losing streak on Saturday as they cruised to a 5-1 win over the Oilers. Carter Verhaeghe and Sam Bennett had two points apiece to lead the charge while the team’s leading scorer, Sam Reinhart, had a relatively quiet night with just one assist and one shot on net.
It’s been a strong first half of December for Verhaeghe, who leads the team with five goals in seven Games while throwing 31 pucks on net — more than four shots per contest. Verhaeghe has been shooting a ton this season with 107 shots in 30 Games, placing him in the Top 15 in the NHL in that department.
The Panthers forward started this season pretty slow with just three goals in his first 10 outings but has recorded 12 goals in the 20 Games since — tied for fifth most in the league over that span.
The Calgary Flames have fallen off a cliff defensively this month, allowing 3.75 goals against and just Under 32 shots per game over their last eight contests. With Verhaeghe coming off a two-goal game and shooting the puck a ton, I like him to score again tonight as my best bet.

The Flames have seen six goals or fewer scored in four of their last six games while the Panthers have had six goals or less in four of their last five.

Panthers vs Flames moneyline and Over/Under analysis
Florida gets the nod as the road favorite tonight at -130 on the moneyline while the total opened at 6.5 goals. I like the Panthers to take two points while cashing the Under in this matchup.
We generally have thought of the Panthers as an offensive juggernaut over the last few seasons, but they’ve seemed to switch things up this year — excelling on the defensive side of the puck while not scoring as much as they’d like.
The Flames, meanwhile, have suffered from awful goaltending this year with a team save percentage of just .892 — tied for the fifth-worst mark in the league. Jacob Markstrom was just activated off the injured reserve following a fractured finger and is expected to start tonight.
The Calgary netminder has been pretty bad this year, though, posting a .896 SV% while giving up at least three goals in each of his last five starts, so we should see Florida put a few past him tonight.
Because of its improved defense, Florida has tended to play lower-scoring games this year, cashing the Under in 17 of 30 games and 11 of 17 on the road. The Under is 4-1 in the Panthers’ last five games and 4-2 in the Flames’ last six outings.
