F1 'unlikely' to return to Imola in 2023 after cancellation

Formula 1 is "unlikely" to return to Imola for the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix in 2023 owing to the busy calendar. The Imola region has been hit by heavy flooding and rainfall with the paddock being closed to personnel on Wednesday 17th May as preparation for round six of the season continued. However, after calls from the Italian Deputy Prime Minister to postpone the race, F1 officially called it off on Wednesday afternoon, with F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali explaining that one reason for the decision was not to put extra pressure on emergency services during the weekend. "Analysing the packed calendar it is highly unlikely that the race will be rescheduled, unless another race drops out," says RacingNews365's Editorial Director Dieter Rencken, who is currently in Imola. The only slot possible before the summer break at the end of July is the weekend of June 23rd-25th, but this would then create a run of four races in four weeks with the Canadian Gran...

Perez hit 'main objective' with Baku Sprint win after huge 'pressure'

Image
Sergio Perez says he delivered on his "main objective" in the Formula 1 Sprint race in Azerbaijan, after taking the victory in Baku. Starting second, Perez held position at the start before the Safety Car was deployed early on for Yuki Tsunoda's wall-strike. On the restart, Perez ran second behind leader Charles Leclerc before breezing past with the assist of the DRS to take a first sprint race victory of his career - and take two points out of title rival Max Verstappen with the lead now down to 12 points. And Perez says that given the new format of just one practice session, two qualifying and then the sprint, it has put the engineers under a lot of pressure . Ricciardo not 'scared' by lack of F1 seats in 2024

Image
Daniel Ricciardo insists that he isn't " scared " by a lack of com Pet itive F1 seats available in 2024. After a difficult two-year spell with McLaren resulted in him leaving the team at the end of 2022, Ricciardo opted to watch from the sidelines in 2023, having taken a reserve driver position at Red Bull. However, the Australian has previously suggested that he hopes to return to the grid next year, though there do not currently look to be many positions opening up with the leading teams. Despite this, Ricciardo isn't worried and acknowledges that his decision not to race in 2023 brought with it an element of "risk". Ricciardo not 'scared' by lack of 2024 F1 seats "It doesn't scare me. It's always been like that," Ricciardo told Top Gear . "And I knew this was going to be a risk obviously removing myself from a seat. But I think it's clear what I don't want. I don't want [just] any seat...

Alonso sceptical on FIA penalty solution: 'It won't all help'

Image
Fernando Alonso has questioned some of the changes made by the FIA to help avoid penalties at the start of Formula 1 races. The Aston Martin driver became the second driver in two races to be penalised for missing their grid slot at the start of the Saudi Arabian GP, which sparked a chain reaction of penalty dramas across the race. "It is difficult, and apparently this year it seems even more, because in two races to have two penalties is a little bit strange," Alonso commented to media when asked about the post-race podium confusion. "We are very concentrated on the yellow line to not go too far forward, so you approach the box not looking at the box. "You're looking on one side of the cockpit, so maybe that's a bit of a distraction, but I made a mistake there, so we will try to be more focused on the box this weekend and avoid any penalty."
